Recently I was talking with a welding engineer about a new method used for joining the cable from the rectifier to pipeline, this method has been proved to be satisfactory in Australian pipelines and is called Pin Brazing.
Traditionally those joints have been made through TW or thermite welding i.e. Cadweld and others, the main advantage of pin brazing is that this can be welded in overhead and others positions than flat
The pins can be welded faster and probably safer than in TW. The final braze is shown in the pictures, the temperature is 650 Degrees Celsius so the process can be classified as brazing welding because the parent material is no melted. Can be applied in different ferrous pipes (steel, iron, etc).
Conversando con ingeniero de soldadura sobre su experiencia en gasoductos y tuberías en Australia pude enterarme de un nuevo método de soldaduras y uniones eléctricas en sistemas de protección católdica que a diferencia de la tradicional soldadura por termita o cadweld puede ser ejecutada de manera mucho más rápida y también más segura. El sistema es conocido como pin Brazing o en español puede traducirse como soldeo fuerte de espárragos. Estos pines o espárragos pueden soldarse en cualquier posición en las tuberías que se diferencia de la soldadura por termita TW la cual solo se realiza en posición plana dado que depende de la gravedad para que fluya el metal fundido.
